What is the average lifespan of an AA battery?
On average, AA batteries last for about 5-10 years, but it still depends on the different key factors discussed here. So, do not wonder if your AA cells last even longer than the range mentioned here or even if they run out of power before 5 years.

---|---|---|
Shelf life | 5-10 years | 10-15 years, with brands like Energizer Ultimate Lithium battery lasting 20 years |

Performance at 0°C | Average | Superior |
Generally, a fresh AA/AAA lithium or alkaline battery should read 1.5 volts or higher, while a used battery will likely read lower than this threshold. However, a AA/AAA rechargeable battery should read 1.25 V.
AA batteries start off with 1.5 volts of energy, but the voltage goes down as the batteries are used up. Once the batteries dip below 1.35 volts, they appear to be dead, even though they still have a lot of juice left.
Energizer MAX® AA, AAA, C, and D cells last up to 10 years in storage, while our 9V lasts up to 5 years in storage. Energizer® EcoAdvanced® AA and AAA last up to 12 years in storage. Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™ AA and AAA last up to 20 years in storage, while our 9V lasts up to 10 years in storage.
Typically, modern alkaline batteries, and other primary batteries such as the 3.6–3.7 -volt lithium batteries, can be stored for up to 10 years with moderate capacity loss. As with all batteries, they should be kept away from extreme temperatures and should never be frozen.
Nothing outlasts Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™ AA batteries. The Energizer® Ultimate Lithium™ batteries are not only the #1 longest-lasting AA batteries…they are complete with leak resistance and performance in extreme temperatures (-40ºF to 140ºF or -40ºC to 60ºC).
Energizer AA Lithium Batteries, World's Longest Lasting Double A Battery, Ultimate Lithium (2 Battery Count)
Each AA rechargeable battery can hold its charge for up to 12 months in storage, and the double A batteries have up to a 5 year battery life with normal use. Energizer is the number 1 recharge brand.
THE DROP TEST
Take a AA battery, hold it over a hard surface (one that you won't worry about scratching) about 2″ up, and drop the negative flat side unto the surface. One of two things will happen: The battery will “thud” on the surface and might even stay standing up. OR the battery will “bounce” and fall over.
What battery percentage should I replace battery?
Battery health degraded
When the capacity of your iPhone battery dips below 80%, you'll see the following message: “Your battery's health is significantly degraded. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the battery to restore full performance and capacity.
In short: no. While cold environments help maintain battery life, refrigerators and freezers are not safe to put batteries in. The moist environment will cause condensation on the batteries. This in turn will lead to rust or other damage.
Drop each battery (with the flat, negative end down) from a couple of inches up. If the battery is charged, it should make a solid thud and most likely stay standing. If, however, the battery is dead, it will bounce and fall over immediately.
Lithium Ion batteries
They have an extremely long lifespan due to aspects such as the battery management, very low self-discharge, the lack of memory effect and a discharge of up 20 %.
While one could attempt to recharge alkaline batteries, a full recharge isn't possible and there are inherent risks. Alkaline batteries are just not built that way. The nail in the coffin is the fact that a disposable alkaline battery can only be recharged 7 to 10 times, if that much.
- Monitor expiration dates.
- Store batteries in a cool, dry environment below room temperature.
- Avoid keeping batteries in products that aren't used often.
- Don't mix new and old batteries in the same product.
The battery life in these two brands differs. Energizer lasts three times longer in clocks than the Duracell, but Duracell takes the crown by lasting two times longer when used in flashlights. To ensure that our environment is not harmed, both brands support the Call2Recycle program.

When it comes down to the choice between Duracell and Energizer, there's no outright winner. Both brands use the best technologies and aren't significantly different in any other features. Whether you want to go with Duracell or Energizer is a matter of preference.
But experts say that the batteries you can buy at dollar stores are lower quality, Kiplinger reports. The carbon-zinc batteries that dollar stores typically sell don't last as long as the alkaline name brands.
Are Amazon batteries as good as Duracell?
The results showed that the Amazon battery is about 88 percent the capacity of the Duracell. If you calculate the cost per unit capacity, the batteries are almost identical.
When comparing rechargeable AA batteries, Gizmodo found that Duracell lasted longer (5 to 6.5 hours) than Energizer batteries (2 to 3.5 hours). Both companies batteries are NiMH (nickel metal hydride); the Duracells are 2000 mAh and the Energizer batteries are 2200 mAh.
Wired has put together a comparison between expensive batteries and dollar stores batteries that answers the question. According to their study, name brand batteries from Duracell and Energizer last over twice as long as dollar store batteries.
The leading battery supplier, CATL, expanded its market share from 32% in 2021 to 34% in 2022. One-third of the world's EV batteries come from the Chinese company. CATL provides lithium-ion batteries to Tesla, Peugeot, Hyundai, Honda, BMW, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo.
Energizer® is different. Our batteries are designed to prevent damaging leaks or we will replace your device. So when it comes to toys, digital cameras and other valuable devices, you can feel confident knowing you have the long-lasting power and protection you'd expect from Energizer®.
Alkaline batteries have a higher energy density compared to carbon-zinc batteries. In addition to that, alkaline batteries last longer than carbon-zinc batteries.

These batteries “die” when one electrode loses ions and becomes depleted, so the reaction cannot continue.
Stick it to your tongue briefly to know for sure. First inspect the battery for any noticeable signs of degradation, rust, battery acid, etc. If the battery seems reasonably clean, stick it to your tongue. You will feel a slight jolt and metallic taste.

What percent is a good battery life?
Is it bad to charge my phone to 100 percent? For optimized battery life, your phone should never go below 20 percent or never above 80 percent. It may put your mind at ease when your smartphone's battery reads 100 percent charge, but it's actually not ideal for the battery.
- Let your screen turn off sooner.
- Reduce screen brightness.
- Set the brightness to change automatically.
- Turn off keyboard sounds or vibrations.
- Restrict apps with high battery use.
- Turn on adaptive battery.
- Delete unused accounts.
- Turn on dark theme.
Putting masking tape on batteries is one way to prevent them from touching. Ziplock bags are another way. "Putting them in plastic bags with all the negatives up, all the positives up, or however you want to do that," Dill said. "Make sure they're tight, so they don't roll around in that."
According to Energizer, batteries are best stored in "a cool, dry place at normal room temperature." That means avoiding any and all areas of the house that are even remotely damp, hot, and humid.
Essentially, the smells in your fridge are made from food particles that float around until they make their way to your nose. By putting baking soda in the refrigerator, you're giving the smelly particles something else to bond with, therefore neutralizing the odor and de-stinking your fridge before you smell the funk.
Go to settings > Battery and device care > Diagnostics. You can now tap on battery status to check its health status.
Some cars will get up to five or six years out of their battery, while others will need a new one after only two years. In general, your car will usually need a new battery after three to four years. Replacing your car battery is another part of routine maintenance.
Connect the multimeter to the positive and negative battery terminals. If you don't have a voltage of around 12.6 volts, you may have a bad battery. Now start the car, and look for a revised voltage over 10. If your voltage drops below 5 when the car is running, it is bad and should be replaced right away.
